KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 2

A Spanish tourist stranded at Makalu Base Camp for nearly a week due to continuous snowfall and adverse weather has been rescued by helicopter this morning.

According to the District Police Office, Sankhuwasabha, the tourist, identified as Jesus Martinez Novas, was airlifted from an altitude of around 5,700 meters in Makalu Rural Municipality-2.

Police said Novas was flown toward Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality-4 in Solukhumbu district following the rescue.

Authorities reported that around 70 foreign and 60 domestic tourists had been trapped at the Makalu Base Camp area due to heavy snowfall over the past few days. Rescue efforts are continuing as weather conditions gradually improve.
