Shreejana Rana has been elected to the Zonta International Board of Directors for the 2026–28 biennium, becoming the first Nepali to serve on the global organisation’s governing board.

Rana was elected at the 67th Zonta International Convention in Vancouver, Canada. Zonta International is a global network of professionals working to advance women’s rights, equality and leadership through service, advocacy and education.

Rana, a former president of the Hotel Association of Nepal and a leader in the hospitality and civic sectors, has been involved in initiatives promoting women’s empowerment and social rights.

Meanwhile, Zonta Club Kathmandu has received the Zonta Excellence in Service and Advocacy Award for the second consecutive biennium. Only six clubs worldwide receive the award in each biennium.

The award recognises the Kathmandu club’s work to prevent and respond to violence against women and girls, both online and offline, in collaboration with police agencies, the Nepal Police Cyber Bureau, legal professionals, local governments, civil society and educational institutions.

Rana said her election was both an honour and a responsibility to represent Nepal internationally and expressed hope that the achievement would inspire young women to pursue leadership roles. “This is a deeply humbling honor and, above all, a responsibility to represent Nepal on the global stage through Zonta International,” Rana said.
