KATHMANDU, JULY 1

The Nepal Rastra Bank has announced the issuance of Rs 45 billion worth of one-year debt securities through an auction open to banks and financial institutions licensed by the central bank.

According to a notice issued by the central bank’s Monetary Management Department, bids for the ‘NRB Bond 2084 ‘Kha’ will be accepted electronically until 3:00 pm on Wednesday, with the securities to be issued the same day.

The debt instrument will mature on Asar 17, 2084, carrying an interest rate to be determined through the auction process. Interest will be paid on a semi-annual basis.

Only NRB-licensed Class ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ banks and financial institutions designated as counterparties are eligible to participate in the auction.

The minimum bid amount has been fixed at Rs 50 million, while higher bids must be submitted in multiples of Rs 50 million, up to the total issue size of Rs 45 billion.

The central bank said successful bids would be determined using a single-price auction mechanism, under which all accepted bidders will receive the same interest rate based on the cut-off yield.

The auction is part of NRB’s regular open market operations aimed at absorbing excess liquidity and maintaining stability in short-term interest rates.
