KATHMANDU, JULY 23

Nepal endured its second consecutive defeat in the Men’s Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA) Championship, losing 3-2 to Sri Lanka in a closely contested match in Islamabad, Pakistan, on Thursday.

Playing at the Liaquat Gymnasium, Nepal dropped the opening set 25-18 but bounced back to win the next two sets 25-21 and 25-19, taking a 2-1 lead. Sri Lanka responded strongly, claiming the fourth set 25-21 before sealing the decider 15-11.

The loss follows Nepal’s narrow 3-2 defeat to Kazakhstan in its opening match on Wednesday. Nepal will now face host Pakistan in its third league match on Friday.

The championship features six teams, Pakistan, Nepal, Kazakhstan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Uzbekistan. The top four teams at the end of the single round-robin league stage will advance to the semifinals.
