Nepal ended the eighth ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 tri-series winless after suffering a 57-run defeat to the Netherlands in Utrecht on Wednesday.

Chasing a target of 226, Nepal were bowled out for 168 in 48 overs, with only Asif Sheikh (38), Rohit Paudel (26) and Karan KC (23) offering brief resistance as the batting line-up struggled to build partnerships.

For the Netherlands, Kyle Klein claimed three wickets, while Logan van Beek, Roelof van der Merwe and Zach Lion-Cachet took two apiece.

Earlier, the hosts posted 225-9 in 50 overs after being sent in to bat. Noah Croes top-scored with 70, while captain Scott Edwards added 57. Nepal’s standout bowler was Karan KC, who returned figures of 4-30 from 10 overs. Dipendra Singh Airee picked up two wickets, while Hemant Dhami and Lalit Rajbanshi claimed one each.

The defeat leaves Nepal winless in the tri-series, having also lost twice to Namibia – by eight wickets and three runs – and suffered an earlier six-wicket defeat to the Netherlands.

With the victory, the Netherlands climbed to second place in the League 2 standings with 38 points from 31 matches. Nepal remain sixth with 24 points from 32 games, while the United States lead the table with 43 points.
