Kathmandu, September 16, 2025 — Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Kulman Ghising, has reportedly formed a task force to promote the use of electric vehicles (EVs) in Nepal.

According to claims circulating in local reports, the task force has been set up soon after Ghising assumed office on Monday. The group is said to include the Director General of Transport Management, the ministry’s Under-Secretary for Law, the Under-Secretary of the Internal Management Branch, and is being supervised by the head of the ministry’s Infrastructure Construction and Transport Division.

The Senior Divisional Engineer of the Mechanical Department has reportedly been appointed as Secretary of the task force. The group has allegedly been asked to submit its report within seven days.

The task force will cover areas such as reviewing existing policies, laws, and institutional arrangements related to EVs, suggesting EV quality and safety standards, providing recommendations for infrastructure such as charging stations, maintenance workshops, and battery management and lastly assessing technical, economic, and social challenges to EV adoption.

Minister Ghising has previously emphasized that electric vehicles should be prioritized now that the country’s electricity production has increased. He has expressed commitment to move forward with immediate action based on the task force’s recommendations.
