Curfew imposed in Itahari after Gen Z protests – The Himalayan Times – Nepal’s No.1 English Daily Newspaper
KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 8
The District Administration Office (DAO), Sunsari, has imposed a curfew in Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City until further notice.
According to Clause 6(A) of the Local Administration Act, 2028, the curfew order was issued, Chief District Officer of Sunsari, Dharmendra Kumar Mishra, informed.
The DAO clarified that the curfew has been enforced in the following areas: from the Nepal Army barracks in Itahari to Paruhang Chowk in the north; from Milan Chowk to the Jute Development area in the east; from the office of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority up to the bus park via the Transport Management Office, Saathi Petrol Pump, and Pushpalal Chowk in the south; and from Kalanki Mode to Janatabasti in the west.
All forms of gatherings, rallies, meetings, demonstrations, and protests have been strictly prohibited in these areas.
Earlier, clashes erupted between members of Generation Z-who had staged protests in Itahari with slogans denouncing corruption-and the police.
The DAO stated that the curfew was enforced in sensitive locations after the protests, which began at 11:00 am with anti-corruption slogans, turned violent.
