KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 24
The Madhesh Province government has announced an additional public holiday on October 28, the fourth day of the Chhath festival.
In a notice issued today, the Ministry of Home, Communications and Law of the province stated that a public holiday will be observed across Madhesh Province on October 28 (Tuesday) to mark the conclusion of the Chhath festival, during which devotees offer prayers to the rising sun.
According to the notice signed by the Ministry’s Deputy Secretary Ganesh Nayak, the provincial government had included an extra day of holiday for the Chhath festival in the provincial gazette last April. Nayak confirmed that the additional holiday has now been officially granted for October 28.
It may be noted that the federal government had already declared a public holiday across the country for October 27 (Monday) to observe the second day of Chhath, when prayers are offered to the setting sun.
