Parbat earns over Rs 650mln from agri-exports, moves towards food self-reliance – The Himalayan Times – Nepal’s No.1 English Daily Newspaper

Parbat district has made significant progress towards food self-reliance, generating over Rs 650 million in revenue from the export of agricultural products in the last fiscal year 2081/82.
According to the Parbat Agricultural Knowledge Centre, the district’s agricultural business turnover reached Rs 653,047,000, driven primarily by the cultivation and sale of six key crops: potatoes, oranges, cardamom, vegetables, maize, and rice.
“Potatoes and oranges are our flagship exports, while paddy, vegetables, cardamom, and maize are cultivated for both seeds and sale,” said Parshuram Adhikari, Chief of the Agriculture Knowledge Centre. Key outputs for the year included 33,120 metric tons of maize, 20,330 metric tons of potatoes, and 12,610 metric tons of vegetables. Fruit production, led by oranges, reached 13,307 metric tons.
A breakdown of export earnings reveals oranges as the top revenue generator at approximately Rs 248.4 million, followed by seeds and vegetables at Rs 111 million, and potatoes at Rs 77.3 million. The district also earned Rs 45 million from honey and Rs 18.1 million from cardamom. Significant quantities of rice, millet, and maize were also exported.
