Meet the Two-Seat Robotaxi Rivaling Tesla cybercab
Lucid Motors has officially entered the autonomous race. On March 12, 2026, during its “Investor Day” in New York, the company unveiled Lunar. This two-seat, purpose-built robotaxi concept directly targets the Tesla Cybercab.
Because Lucid is currently burning cash, Lunar represents a “strategic pivot” toward high-margin software and fleet revenue. Furthermore, the vehicle serves as a showcase for Lucid’s upcoming Midsize Platform (MSP), which will also power more affordable consumer SUVs.

Design: No Steering Wheel, No Pedals
Like the Cybercab, the Lucid Lunar is a dedicated Level 4 autonomous vehicle. Therefore, it completely removes traditional driver controls to maximize interior passenger space.
- Two-Seat Layout: Lucid chose a two-seat configuration because data shows most ride-share trips involve only one or two passengers.
- Massive Screen: The cabin features a 36-inch infotainment display for entertainment, work, and trip tracking.
- Large Trunk: Despite its small footprint, the Lunar includes a deep cargo area for multiple pieces of luggage.
- Ingress/Egress: The design focuses on “rapid entry,” making it ideal for busy urban environments.
Technical Edge: The “Atlas” Drive Unit
The Lunar rides on Lucid’s new Midsize Platform, which utilizes the revolutionary Atlas drive unit.
- Efficiency Leadership: The platform targets an efficiency of 5.5 miles/kWh. This is significantly higher than most current EVs.
- Ultra-Fast Charging: Lunar can regain 200 miles of range in just 14 minutes. Thus, it spends more time earning money and less time at chargers.
- 800V Architecture: Lucid is sticking with high-voltage tech to maintain its performance advantage over competitors using 400V systems.
The Uber Partnership: A Different Strategy
While Tesla plans to build its own “Tesla Network,” Lucid is taking a collaborative approach.
- Uber Integration: Lucid is finalizing an agreement to deploy Midsize platform vehicles (including Lunar) directly on Uber’s network.
- The Nuro Connection: Lucid is also working with Nuro to test autonomous Gravity SUVs in San Francisco later this year. These pilots will serve as a testbed for Lunar’s final software stack.
Software Revenue: Subscriptions Up to $199
Lucid is following the industry trend of monetizing software. Consequently, the company announced a tiered monthly subscription for its DreamDrive Pro suite starting in 2027.
