KATHMANDU, JUNE 11

The District Administration Office (DAO), Kathmandu, has made it mandatory for organisations and companies to obtain prior approval before publicly screening matches of the FIFA World Cup 2026 within the district.

Issuing a notice on Thursday, the DAO said the measure was aimed at maintaining law and order and preventing activities that could disturb public peace.

Assistant Chief District Officer and spokesperson for the DAO said no organisation would be allowed to organise large-scale screenings, particularly on giant screens at night, without official permission.

The administration warned that gathering crowds under the pretext of live match broadcasts and engaging in unruly, undesirable or unlawful activities would invite legal action.

According to the notice, applications for permission can be obtained from the DAO’s website. Approval will be granted after assessing the venue, security sensitivity and compliance with the conditions outlined in the application process.

The DAO also cautioned that any public screening of FIFA World Cup matches without prior approval from Thursday night onwards would be subject to action under prevailing laws.
