Display and Design

The 17 Pro Max keeps the 6.9-inch OLED screen, same resolution as before, but it’s noticeably brighter, up to 3,000 nits outdoors and the contrast in sunlight is reportedly twice as good. Apple added Ceramic Shield 2 on the front, which they say is three times more scratch-resistant, and kept Ceramic Shield on the back just under the camera module.

The Cupertino-based tech giants has decided to ditch the more expensive Titanium body for a Series 7000 aluminum body for both the Pro Max and 17 pro, which is anodized from outside. The 17 Pro Max comes in Cosmic Orange, Deep Blue, and Silver. Regarding the design layout, Apple has repositioned the logo lower and replaced the usual square camera module with a long camera strip. Thickness is up slightly to 8.7mm, mostly to accommodate the larger battery. Compared to the regular 17 Pro, the Pro Max is bigger, heavier, and has more battery life, but the overally inside is mostly the same. Regarding memory, the 17 Pro Max starts at 256GB, with 512GB, 1TB, and a new 2TB option, while the regular 17 Pro caps at 1TB.

Performance and Software

Inside, there’s the A19 Pro chip with a 6-core CPU, 6-core GPU, and 16-core Neural Engine. RAM is up to 12GB, compared to 8GB in the 16 Pro Max. Apple also added a vapor chamber for cooling, which helps with performance as about 40% better than the 16 Pro Max. iOS 26 runs on it with Liquid Glass animations. Compared to the regular 17 Pro, the performance is essentially the same; the main difference is the bigger body allowing better cooling and slightly longer battery life.

Camera

The camera is a bigger upgrade. Rear cameras now have three 48MP sensors: main, ultrawide, and telephoto. The telephoto lens is 100mm, which offers 4x optical zoom and up to 8x digital with 3D sensor-shift OIS, whereas the 16 Pro Max had 5x. The front camera is now 18MP with Center Stage tech that keeps your subject centered during selfies and videos. Video recording includes ProRes RAW, Log 2, genlock, and 4K at 120fps.

Battery

Battery life has improved as well. Apple now claims 33 hours of video playback, compared to 27 hours on the 16 Pro Max. No official mAh is given, but it’s clearly enough to make the Pro Max a day-and-a-half in normal usage. The eSIM-only rollout is expanding, too, meaning the 17 Pro Max now skip physical SIMs entirely. Connectivity is upgraded with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, 5G, and Thread support via the new N1 chip.
