PM Karki reiterates government’s pledge to fulfill main responsibilities – The Himalayan Times – Nepal’s No.1 English Daily Newspaper

KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 22

Prime Minister Sushila Karki has said that the government-committed to eradicating corruption, promoting good governance, and holding elections-requires the support and cooperation of civil society.

Addressing a reception organized by the Nepal Sambat Nhuda Preservation Society at Basantapur today on the occasion of the Nepal Sambat New Year 1146, PM Karki urged all citizens to uphold social harmony and unity, safeguard democracy, and fulfil the national responsibility of combating corruption.

“I believe the present government, which is advancing with the primary objectives of ending corruption, upholding the rule of law, conducting the House of Representatives elections, and providing a political way forward for the country, will receive support and cooperation from all political parties, civil society, and the Nepali people,” she said.

The Prime Minister reiterated the government’s full commitment to normalizing the situation following the Gen-Z movement and ensuring that elections are held on the stipulated date in a free and fearless environment.

She expressed the government’s resolve to conduct inclusive elections with the participation of all Nepalis, in line with the responsibilities entrusted to the civilian government formed through the strength of the movement.

“Every day, some form of dialogue is taking place with political parties,” she said. “We are also in constant contact and discussion with representatives of Gen-Z-the agents of change. Stating that elections are a priority does not mean we have remained silent on the issues of corruption and good governance.”

PM Karki noted that the current administration bears a key responsibility to address the demands for good governance raised by the Gen-Z movement within the framework of the Constitution of Nepal, and added that state mechanisms are working to deliver tangible outcomes in this regard.

‘Nepal Sambat Calendar a Symbol of Nepali Pride, Culture, and Generosity’

Earlier today, speaking at a programme held at Patan Mangalbazar, Lalitpur, Prime Minister Karki described the Nepal Sambat calendar as a symbol of Nepalis’ pride, civilization, and cultural identity.

The event, organized by Manka Khalah Yala with the support of Lalitpur Metropolitan City and cooperation from various indigenous and community organizations of Patan, marked the celebration of Nepal Sambat New Year 1146.

On the occasion, the Prime Minister pledged full government support for the preservation and promotion of the Nepalbhasa language.

The Nepal Sambat New Year is being celebrated with joy and enthusiasm across Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, and Kathmandu through various cultural programmes organized by the Newar community.

The festival is also observed in several other towns and settlements across the country, particularly where Newar communities reside.
