Secretariat source confirms departure after 19 killed in clashes

KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 9

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has resigned from his post, on Tuesday afternoon, according to his secretariat.

The resignation comes after second day of mass demonstrations led by Gen Z youths, who have demanded accountability for corruption, restrictions on freedoms, and police violence. On Monday alone, 19 protesters were killed and around 500 injured during clashes around the Federal Parliament and other sites in Kathmandu.

Authorities have since imposed curfews across the Valley and deployed heavy security, yet demonstrators continue to take to the streets.
