KATHMANDU, AAUGUST 25

Madhesh Province registered 5,068 new industries last fiscal year, even as 1,938 industries and business enterprises closed or were deregistered, highlighting the mixed picture of business activity amid an economic slowdown.

According to the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Parsa recorded the highest number of new registrations at 1,101, followed by Dhanusha with 777, Bara with 639, Sarlahi with 636, Siraha with 554, Rautahat with 533, Mahottari with 514 and Saptari with 314.

Information Officer Upendra Kumar Mahato said 6,122 private firms and 18 partnership firms were newly registered during the fiscal year 2025/26. A total of 11,144 firms were renewed, while 7,540 industries underwent the renewal process, according to the ministry.

However, 1,938 industries and business enterprises were closed or deregistered during the year. Of these, 1,117 were from the commerce sector.

The ministry attributed the closures to the ongoing economic slowdown and challenges including liquidity constraints and a shortage of investment capital.

Mahato said the government collected Rs 52.649 million in revenue from the registration and renewal of industries and business enterprises during the fiscal year.

The figures show continued registration and renewal activity alongside a significant number of business closures, reflecting the pressure faced by enterprises in the province.
