KATHMANDU, JULY 22

Standard Chartered Bank Nepal Limited (SCBNL) has reiterated its commitment to supporting Nepal’s economic growth and strengthening cross-border business opportunities during a visit by its South Asia Chief Executive Officer, P.D. Singh.

Singh, who serves as CEO for India and South Asia at Standard Chartered, was in Nepal from July 19 to 21, where he held discussions with senior government and regulatory officials on Nepal’s development priorities, investment prospects and avenues for sustainable economic growth.

During the visit, Singh met Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle, National Planning Commission Vice-Chairperson Dr. Gunakar Bhatta and Nepal Rastra Bank Deputy Governor Kiran Pandit, according to the bank.

SCBNL also hosted a networking event attended by corporate leaders, banking professionals and representatives of multilateral institutions to strengthen engagement with key stakeholders.

Addressing the gathering, Singh said Standard Chartered’s global network positions the bank to connect South Asian economies with international markets. He noted that the bank’s expertise in cross-border banking, lending, advisory services and customised financial solutions could help businesses expand and contribute to Nepal’s economic development.

Standard Chartered has been operating in Nepal since 1987 as a joint-venture institution. The bank is currently majority-owned by the Standard Chartered Group with a 70.21 per cent stake, while the remaining 29.79 per cent is held by the Nepali public. The bank is listed on the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE).

SCBNL said the visit underscored the bank’s continued focus on supporting investment, trade and sustainable growth in Nepal through its international banking network and financial expertise.
