Three siblings suffer from heart disease, stranded without treatment in Bajura – The Himalayan Times – Nepal’s No.1 English Daily Newspaper
BAJURA, OCTOBER 29
Three siblings from a single family in Khaptad Chededaha Rural Municipality–1, Bajura, are fighting for their lives due to heart disease and lack of financial resources for treatment.
According to local resident Mahavir Rawal, all three children, 19-year-old daughter Raajindraa Rawal; and two sons 15-year-old Debendra Rawal, and 8-year-old Hirendra Rawal, have been suffering from heart-related problems since infancy. Their mother, Dhana Devi Rawal, said the family has been unable to afford treatment despite years of struggle.
“We once took them to India for medical tests, but we couldn’t manage the cost of surgery. Now, we don’t even have money to reach Kathmandu,” Dhana Devi said tearfully.
Her husband, Jaya Rawal, is currently working as a daily wage laborer in Delhi, India, and has taken Debendra with him in hopes of better care. The mother remains in the village with the two younger children, struggling to manage food and medicine.
Locals said the family has already spent over Rs 200,000 on medical examinations. The three siblings have stopped going to school due to their worsening condition.
Last year, the Khaptad Chededaha Rural Municipality had taken Rajindra to Kathmandu Medical College for treatment, but doctors there referred her to Manmohan Cardiothoracic Vascular and Transplant Center or Shahid Gangalal National Heart Center. The family, however, had to return home without surgery due to the high cost.
Rural Municipality Chairperson Dil Bahadur Rawat said the local government was willing to provide partial support but could not bear the expenses amounting to several lakhs.
Now, as the condition of her children worsens, Dhana Devi has made a heartfelt appeal to kind-hearted individuals and organizations for financial help.
“If no one helps us soon, I fear I’ll lose my children right before my eyes,” she said emotionally. “For the poor, there is no peace anywhere.”
