KATHMANDU, JANUARY 11

Singer and actor Prashant Tamang passed away from cardiac arrest on Sunday morning at the age of 42.

News of Tamang’s sudden demise sent shockwaves through Nepali-speaking communities around the world, including his birthplace, Darjeeling in India.

Tamang rose to prominence after winning Season 3 of the Indian television reality show Indian Idol, a milestone that earned him immense popularity among Nepali-speaking audiences across countries.

Beyond his success as a singer, he established a distinctive presence in the Nepali film industry. His performances captivated audiences not only through his music but also through his acting talent.

Prashant entered Nepali cinema as a playback singer with the film Himmat 2. Gorkha Paltan, in which he played a significant role, marked the beginning of his acting career.

Following the news of his death, Nepali actress Keki Adhikari expressed her heartfelt condolences on social media. She described her moments with Tamang during their collaborative projects as “memorable,” and fondly recalled modeling for the song Manshaili, sung by Tamang, which she said she deeply cherishes.

Adhikari further remembered working together in the film Pardeshi 2, adding that his warm smile remains vivid in her memory.

Similarly, artist Deepashree Niraula paid tribute to Tamang by sharing old photographs with him on Facebook. She praised not only his singing and acting abilities but also his humble and friendly nature.
