KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 17
A book titled ‘Nepalmandal sanga jodiyeko Simraungadh ko itihas’ (A History of the Madhesh that influenced Nepal’s history, culture, geopolitics, and legall system),” written by Roshan Kumar Jha was launched here today.
The book was jointly launched by Jagman Gurung, Prof Dinesh Raj Pant, Prof Purushottam Lochan Shrestha, Kanak Mani Dixit, Director General of the Department of Archaeology Saubhagya Pradhanang, Prof Vijay Prasad Mishra, Chair of National News Agency Dharmendra Jha, journalist Sudheer Sharma, Archaeologist, Devendranath Tiwari and Chancellor of the Nepal Academy Bhupal Rai.
Dr. Jagman Gurung remarked that the book is an important text and document for understanding the true history of Nepal. All speakers emphasized the significance of the book and its potential impact on the understanding of Nepal’s history.
The book reveals that the regions now listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites – Hanuman Dhoka, Patan, and Bhaktapur – were once under the influence or governance of Mithila. The book presents with new evidence that the region of Tirhut (commonly referred to as the Terai-Madhesh today) has had deep social, cultural, political, religious, literary, matrimonial, and intellectual ties with Nepalmandal (Kathmandu Valley) for nearly 700 years since the Tirhut Kingdom.
The book is based on the Gopalraj Vamsavali (chronicle), documents preserved in the Keshar Library, medieval inscriptions, and ancient texts stored in the national archives. Therefore, it is not merely a book but a highly valuable document that reflects the contribution and influence of Mithila in Nepal’s glorious history.
While intellectuals, and politicians have mostly discussed regional inequality, neglect, poverty, and unemployment, this book highlights how the prosperous traditions of Tirhut that inspired awakening in Nepalmandal, enriched its culture, energized its economy, and structured its justice system.
