New Study Shows EV Batteries Can Last Over 20 Years
New Study Shows EV Batteries are more durable than ever, according to data from over 10,000 electric vehicles (EVs). This comprehensive analysis, conducted by Geotab, a leader in connected transportation solutions, reveals that EV batteries degrade at an average rate of just 1.8% per year, extending their lifespan and reliability for both consumers and fleet operators.
Back in 2019, Geotab’s battery health analysis reported a 2.3% average annual degradation rate. However, the new study shows EV batteries now last significantly longer, with a reduced degradation rate of 1.8% annually. This improvement allows most EV batteries to potentially last 15 to 20 years or more under normal driving and climate conditions.
“This is a testament to how far EV technology has come,” said Geotab in their official report. “Drivers can now expect longer-lasting performance, which supports the long-term viability of electric mobility.”
