KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 21

Nepal exported a total of 1,015 megawatts of electricity on Monday, coinciding with the celebration of Laxmi Pooja, one of the major days of the Tihar festival.

According to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), the country’s total electricity demand peaked at 1,650 megawatts on Monday evening. This marks an increase of 48 megawatts compared to last year’s Laxmi Pooja, when the peak demand stood at 1,602 megawatts.

The NEA stated that the growth in power consumption reflects increasing domestic use during the festive period as households and businesses illuminated homes, temples, and streets with decorative lights.

Nepal, which has achieved surplus power generation in recent years, has been exporting electricity to neighboring India and Bangladesh.
