Vehicles to strengthen emergency response in Koshi, Lumbini, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki
KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 29
The Government of Japan handed over 12 recycled fire engines to two Nepali NGOs on Wednesday, which will soon be deployed across 12 municipalities in Koshi, Lumbini, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces.
The project was implemented by Volunteer Corps Nepal (VCN), led by Deepak Chapagain, and the United Mission to Nepal (UMN), led by Dhana Lama, with funding through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP). The Japanese government granted USD 282,614 to VCN and USD 259,035 to UMN for the initiative.
Speaking on the occasion, MaedaToru, Ambassador of Japan to Nepal, congratulated everyone involved in the project. He appreciated all who worked with the Embassy to complete the project and expressed his belief that these vehicles will strengthen emergency response capabilities, providing much-needed assistance to the communities they serve.
The Embassy of Japan believes that these projects will contribute to the safety of the people in the 12 municipalities and their surrounding areas against fire incidents. We also believe this support will further deepen the friendship between the people of Japan and Nepal, according to the press statement issued by Japanese embassy in Kathmandu.
Since its establishment in 1991, GGP has implemented over 200 projects in Nepal, focusing on grassroots development that directly benefits local communities.
