Honor teases “Robot Phone” with a gimbal-mounted camera

Just after launching the flagship Honor Magic 8 and Honor Magic 8 Pro, the company has begun teasing a “Robot Phone”. Yes, you read that right. A Robot Phone with a gimbal-mounted camera. Let’s find out more.
What is the Honor Robot Phone?
The official teaser video that Honor posted gives us a much clearer look at what we can expect from this Robot Phone. And that retractable gimbal camera heavily resembles the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 (or the upcoming Osmo Pocket 4).
The way the gimbal camera moves and interacts gives it a life of its own, which very much reminds me of Disney’s “WALL-E”. Although the supposed footage from that camera is very clearly AI-generated.
By the looks of it, the Honor Robot Phone is able to take photos from various angles thanks to its gimbal mechanism. And we’re not sure if it’s simply a part of the promotional video or what, but it seems this gimbal can also make little noises as if to mimic a real person.

“Super Brain of AI”
Honor says this concept phone is a “super brain” of AI with the “super mobility” of a robot. Now I don’t have a clue what it means exactly, but according to the company, it’s a device that is able to obtain information around you in an instant and interact with what it sees.

So the camera will basically be like your personal cameraman that can give recommendations, like we see in the teaser.
What else?
Apart from the little minion, the Honor Robot Phone looks like your normal day-to-day smartphone overall. Alongside the gimbal camera, we notice two additional sensors at the back as well as a selfie camera at the front.
We also see Honor’s replaced by an alpha symbol at the back, which indicates it’s a part of the “Honor Alpha Plan” corporate strategy.
When is Honor Robot Phone launching?
Honor has officially confirmed that it’s bringing the Robot Phone to MWC Barcelona 2026 (March 2 – March 5). But since this is a concept phone, we’re only expecting a closer look at the device instead of official launch details. Nonetheless, this is quite a unique product. And Honor stepping up to do something like this might enable other brands to give out their own unique ideas.
