Foreign exchange reserves rise 27.5% to Rs 3.41 trillion by mid-March – The Himalayan Times – Nepal’s No.1 English Daily Newspaper
KATHMANDU, APRIL 2
The country’s gross foreign exchange reserves climbed 27.5 percent to Rs 3,413.77 billion by mid-March 2026 from Rs 2,677.68 billion at mid-July 2025, according to Nepal Rastra Bank, reflecting the strong inflow of remittances and an improved balance of payments position.
In US dollar terms, reserves rose 18.3 percent to USD 23.08 billion from USD 19.50 billion – providing the economy with a comfortable import buffer.
Of the total, reserves held by Nepal Rastra Bank increased 25.7 percent to Rs 3,035.11 billion, while those held by commercial banks and financial institutions rose 44.0 percent to Rs 378.66 billion. Indian currency accounted for 21.0 percent of total reserves as of mid-March 2026.
