BRAZIL, OCTOBER 27

Chinese automaker BYD has reached a new milestone with the production of its 14 millionth new energy vehicle (NEV) at its passenger car plant in Camaçari, Brazil on October 9. The achievement makes BYD the first global NEV manufacturer to reach this record.

The ceremony was attended by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, Chinese Ambassador Zhu Qingqiao, and BYD Chairman and President Wang Chuanfu. During the event, Mr. Wang presented the milestone vehicle – a BYD Song Pro – to President Lula.

President Lula hailed the factory’s impact, saying, “This factory restores dignity to the people of Camaçari and Bahia. You have every opportunity to make history and build the most sophisticated and fastest cars on Earth.”

BYD also announced plans to supply 30 new energy vehicles for COP30 as low-carbon shuttles, which will later be donated to local institutions. Ahead of the event, Bahia’s Legislative Assembly renamed the main road in front of the BYD plant to “BYD Road.”
