Realme just unveiled the GT8 Pro in China, which brings something you rarely see on a smartphone—swappable camera housings. The phone also packs a 200MP periscope camera co-developed with Ricoh and features much more stuff. Now, let’s jump into this article, where I will discuss everything about the latest Realme GT8 Pro, including its price in Nepal, specifications, and availability.

Realme GT8 Pro Overview

Display and Design

The GT8 Pro features a 6.79-inch 2K OLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate. The screen reaches a massive 7,000 nits at peak brightness and 4,000 nits under direct sunlight. It also supports Dolby Vision and covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut. The display includes hardware-level DC dimming and can go as low as 1nit for dark environments. According to Realme, Touch response in the GT8 Pro is really fast, with 3,200Hz instantaneous sampling and 360Hz four-finger sampling.

Now, getting into the design side of things, there is something new about this phone — the detachable camera housing. Here, two Torx screws hold the module in place, and you can swap it with different designs. Realme offers four styles — Functional Robot, Classic Round, Square (with metal porthole design), and Transparent Rubik’s Cube. You can also 3D print your own using the 3MF file Realme released in collaboration with MakerWorld.

The phone comes in three colors. White uses AG frosted glass, whereas Blue and Green use paper-like recycled leather, which Realme says is eco-friendly, wear-resistant, and corrosion-resistant.

Performance and Software

As you’d expect, the GT8 Pro runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset with Adreno 840 GPU, paired with up to 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB UFS 4.1 storage. Unlike the GT8’s UFS 4.0 storage, the Pro gets faster read and write speeds with UFS 4.1.

This year has been pretty big for flagship phones, as most of them now feature a dedicated gaming chip. In that same vein, realme has added its custom “R1 graphics chip”, which supports super-frame and super-resolution in over 100 games with better image quality and lower power consumption. The phone can handle 2K resolution at 120fps in open-world games and native 144Hz in five popular shooters.

A 7,000mm² Ultra-Coverage Cold Front vapor chamber cools the device, which is also the largest in Realme’s history and 30% larger than the previous generation. The system covers all major heat sources, which should help during extended gaming sessions.

It ships with Android 16 and Realme UI 7.0. The realme GT 8 Pro also gets a “Sky Communication System” with the “S1 chip” that apparently improves cellular game signals by 25% and supports 21 global 5G bands.

Camera System

This is where Realme partnered with Ricoh. The main 50MP camera uses a 1/1.56-inch sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and OIS. It features an ultra-high transparency lens group co-developed with Ricoh to meet official GR optical standards. Apparently, the lens reduces glare and distortion while improving resolving power and sharpness.

In addition, the phone includes a dedicated Ricoh GR Mode with a customized UI that replicates the feel of Ricoh GR cameras. You get fast startup with the signature Ricoh GR IV shutter click sound.  You also get five classic Ricoh tones — Standard, Positive Film, Negative Film, Monotone, and High-Contrast B&W. There’s also a Customized Tone function if you want to adjust effect parameters yourself.

Moving on, the 200MP periscope telephoto uses a 1/1.4-inch Samsung HP5 sensor with an f/2.6 aperture and dual-axis OIS. Unlike the GT8’s 50MP periscope with 3.5x optical zoom, the Pro gets a much larger 200MP sensor with 3x optical zoom and 6x lossless zoom. Hybrid zoom reaches up to 120x. The True 200MP Mode uses multi-frame fusion powered by the Snapdragon chipset and Realme algorithms for ultra-clear zoom. The camera shoots 8K ultra-HD photos with four times higher resolution than standard shots.

And unlike the GT8’s 8MP ultrawide, the GT8 Pro gets a 50MP sensor with an f/2.0 aperture and 116-degree field of view. Up front, there’s a 32MP selfie camera with an f/2.4 aperture, which is also double the resolution of the GT8’s 16MP shooter. Similarly, video recording maxes out at 8K resolution and 30fps.

Audio and Haptics

The GT8 Pro packs dual 1115E symmetrical speakers with N’Bass bass enhancement and a full-cavity structure for a surging sound field. It supports Hi-Res audio and includes an 0816 AAC TOP-level ultra-wideband pulse motor that uses third-generation ESA ultra-wideband technology for vibration.

Battery and Charging

The phone houses a 7,000mAh second-generation Titan battery split between two silicon-carbon cells. The GT8 Pro supports 120W wired and 50W wireless charging. Unlike the GT8’s 100W wired-only setup, the Pro adds wireless charging that can hit 50% in just 15 minutes. Realme claims that a full wired charge would take under 45 minutes.

Additional Features

The GT8 Pro carries IP66, IP68, and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance. It includes an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, an infrared sensor, NFC, and Wi-Fi 7 support. Bluetooth 6.0 handles wireless connections, and the phone supports multiple satellite navigation systems, including Beidou, GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and QZSS.
