Hyundai IONIQ 9 wins ‘German Premium Car of the Year 2026’ – The Himalayan Times – Nepal’s No.1 English Daily Newspaper
KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 17
Hyundai’s flagship all-electric SUV, the IONIQ 9, has won the prestigious title of German Premium Car of the Year 2026, reinforcing the brand’s growing influence in the global EV segment.
Selected by a jury of 40 automotive journalists, the IONIQ 9 stood out for its aerodynamic design, advanced 800-volt fast-charging system, and three-row lounge-style interior. Built on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform, it offers a driving range exceeding 500 km and ultra-fast charging from 10 to 80 percent in just 24 minutes.
“IONIQ 9 reflects what we stand for: innovative design, a progressive mindset, and a commitment to human-centred, sustainable mobility,” said Xavier Martinet, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Europe. “Awards like this remind us we’re on the right track, driving us to keep pushing boundaries and create electric vehicles that inspire confidence, connection, and pride in every drive. IONIQ 9 shows just how far our brand has come in the past decade, and our commitment to continue leading the way in electrified mobility.”
The recognition aligns with Hyundai Nepal’s ongoing mission to expand electric mobility through local assembly and popular models like the Kona EV and IONIQ 5.
The German Car of the Year Awards are among Europe’s most respected automotive honors, recognizing excellence in design, technology, and sustainability. Around 40 independent motor journalists evaluate new vehicles launched in the past year across five categories – Compact, Premium, Luxury, New Energy, and Performance – based on design, technology, efficiency, and innovation.
The IONIQ 9’s win in the Premium category highlights Hyundai’s global leadership in electric mobility and its dedication to redefining what premium electric driving stands for, the company said.
