Nepal exports electricity worth Rs 5.92 billion to India in Ashoj – The Himalayan Times – Nepal’s No.1 English Daily Newspaper
KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 25
Nepal exported electricity worth Rs 5.92 billion to India in Ashoj (mid-September to mid-October), despite disruptions to hydropower production caused by the August 26 floods.
Nepal Electricity Authority Executive Director Dirghayu Kumar Shrestha said electricity exports recovered in Ashoj after being briefly disrupted by the disaster. Nearly two-thirds of the cross-border electricity supply was made under bilateral agreements, according to the authority.
Nepal also resumed exporting 40 megawatts of electricity to Bangladesh through India’s transmission line on Friday. The supply had been halted after the floods damaged the Trishuli and Chilime hydropower plants, which were designated to supply electricity to Bangladesh.
The resumption restores Nepal’s electricity exports to Bangladesh following the disruption caused by the disaster.
