KATHMANDU, JUNE 22

The Darai community in Tanahun has intensified efforts to preserve its traditional Chudka dance, a fading cultural heritage practice.

A local competition was organised to encourage youth participation and transmit the folk dance tradition across generations. The dance, performed during festivals and social gatherings, reflects collective identity and agricultural life.

Community leaders said modernization, migration and digital entertainment have reduced youth engagement in traditional cultural practices.

Efforts are underway to document Chudka songs, include cultural education in local curriculum, and promote digital preservation of the art form.
