Precious metals surge sharply, making gold costlier for Nepali consumers

KATHMANDU, JANUARY 12

Gold price in the domestic market surged by Rs 4,100 per tola on Monday, climbing to a historic high of Rs 274,700 per tola.

With the latest increase, gold has fully crossed the psychological threshold of Rs 270,000 per tola, becoming increasingly expensive for Nepali consumers and continuing its record-setting run.

According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, fine gold was traded at Rs 270,600 per tola on Sunday.

Silver price also registered a fresh record, rising by Rs 205 per tola on Monday to cross the Rs 5,000 mark. The white metal is now being traded at Rs 5,195 per tola, up from Rs 4,990 per tola on Sunday, the federation said.

The surge has pushed both gold and silver prices to historic highs in the Nepali market.
