KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 16

A total of 81 inmates who had escaped from Kaski Prison during the Gen-Z demonstrations on September 9 have been rearrested from various locations.

The Department of Prisons had earlier urged all fugitives to return voluntarily by October 6. Those who failed to comply were located and detained through coordinated police operations.

Among the rearrested are individuals convicted of rape, drug trafficking, theft, homicide, attempted murder, indecent behaviour, vehicular offences, assault, and human trafficking.

Out of 773 inmates who fled during the unrest, more than 200 remain at large. The prison office stated that its physical records were destroyed in the arson during the protest, but all inmate data remain securely stored in digital archives.
